October is one of my favourite months of the year, because I absolutely love Halloween. Thus, one of my favourite things to do in October is to watch Halloween movies. There’s so many to watch, but I grew up watching Halloween Disney movies and they still hold a big place in my heart. Therefore, I wanted to share five of my favourite Halloween Disney movies with you.

halloween Disney movies frankieweenie

1. Frankenweenie (2012)

Frankenweenie is one of the latest Halloween Disney movies and although I didn’t grow up watching this, it’s a good one. It’s a 3D stop-motion-animated fantasy horror comedy film directed by Tim Burton. I absolutely love Tim Burton’s films.  If you love Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride you will love this one.

The story is a parody of and a homage to the 1931 film Frankenstein. You can buy a Frankieweenie DVD here.

halloween Disney movies hocus pocus

2. Hocus Pocus (1993)

This is probably the best Halloween movie of all time. I used to watch Hocus Pocus around Halloween every year when I was a kid. It’s a film that’s great for the whole family as it’s not a scary movie. It’s more of a comedy with a little bit of light horror. Every time I watch it now, I absolutely love it, because I now get the jokes that I was too innocent for when I was a kid.

The plot is based around a trio of 17th century witches who are accidentally resurrected in the 20th century. The classic Halloween Disney movie stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker. You can buy a Hocus Pocus DVD here.

halloween Disney movies halloweentown

3. Halloweentown (1998)

Halloweentown is another all time favourite Halloween movie of mine. As a kid I really wanted to be a witch because of this film. I mean what little girl doesn’t want to find out that she has magical powers? This film is also for the whole family as it’s an adventure comedy.

The storyline is about a 13 year old girl who finds out that she’s a witch and then helps to save a town full of other supernatural creatures.

4. Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire (2000)

Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire used to creep me out when I was a kid. I don’t really see how as it’s a family comedy with a hint of fantasy and light horror. This one is a bit cheesy, but overall a good watch to get into the Halloween mood.

The storyline is quite easy to figure out from the title of the film. It’s about kids who set their mother up with a mysterious man, not realising he’s a vampire.

5. The Scream Team (2002)

The Scream Team is another movie I really enjoyed as a kid. It’s a bit cheesy, but makes for a great Halloween family comedy with some light horror. The film stars young Kat Dennings and Kathy Najimy who is also in Hocus Pocus.

The plot of the movie is about three ghosts who try to help two kids after an angry spirit refuses to let their grandfather rest in peace.

Have you ever watched these movies? What do you think about them?

I remember watching Frankenweenie in the cinema and haven’t seen it since. I cannot remember the plot line or anything but knew it was good. I’ll have to re-watch it this month!
