I have been bleaching my hair since I was 14 and over the years I’ve learnt how to keep my hair as healthy as possible even though I bleach it. A big portion of keeping my hair healthy comes down to the products I use. Back in October I started using Tigi’s Bed Head Dumb Blonde Shampoo and Reconstructor for Chemically Treated Hair and I’ve finally completely used them up, so I thought I would write up a review. I purchased them from FEELUNIQUE as a tween set as they were on a deal at the time. I don’t remember exactly how much I paid for them, but it wasn’t more than £20 for the set.
Firstly, I just want to say that the packaging is lovely. I absolutely loved having this set in my shower as the packaging is so sleek, feminine and it makes the hair products look very expensive in my opinion. I loved the fact that both the shampoo and reconstructor came with a pump as it’s easier to control how much product you use and it’s also a lot more sanitary. However, I really struggled to get the reconstructor out in its last few uses.
Although the products are mainly targeting blondes with their ‘dumb blonde’ name, they are not actually only for blondes as they state that it’s a ‘colour care for serial hair abusers’, so this could be someone who just dyes their hair a lot.
TIGI’S BED HEAD DUMB BLONDE SHAMPOO FOR CHEMICALLY TREATED HAIR 750ML
The product states that it’s a ‘pH balanced shampoo with keratin and milk protein to help reconstruct and care for chemically treated hair’. The shampoo is a pale lilac colour which is perfect for blondes as it helps to keep the brassy tones away. However, I’m not 100% sure about this shampoo. It did do a good job at making my hair clean at first, but after a few months of using the shampoo it gave me a lot of dandruff which is a big no for me.
TIGI’S BED HEAD DUMB BLONDE RECONSTRUCTOR FOR CHEMICALLY TREATED HAIR 750ML
Similarly to the shampoo the product states that the ‘reconstructor uses Protein Booster Technology to help restore the hair at its core, while conditioners combined with milk extract and keratin protect the hair externally’ to achieve soft, smooth and moisturised hair. Unlike the shampoo this product is bright yellow which I found was terrible for my white hair as it actually made it very brassy super quickly. I feel like if they are marketing this product for blondes, they should have our best interest. I don’t think any blonde wants to use a product which will make their hair yellow. Despite that, I really love this product. My hair enjoyed it every time I used it as my hair felt super soft and looked super shiny with each wash.
Both the shampoo and reconstructor smell absolutely incredible. I mean they smell like strawberry chewits, do I need to say more? I feel like the smell made me really enjoy using these products as they would always leave my bathroom smelling amazing for the next few hours and the smell lingers in the hair for the next 2 days. One thing I really want to put out there is that the description on how to use the products states to use them daily which I did at first but found that they made my hair very dry and brittle. I knew this would happen, but the dumb blonde in me followed the directions. It is very important to know that when you use hair products which contain keratin (protein) they shouldn’t be used daily as keratin can be very bad for your hair if used too much. After seeing my hair go very dry I started using these every second wash, meaning I would wash my hair with these, but the next time I washed my hair I would use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner (I really like the Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner in-between keratin shampoo washes). This explains why I only just finished these products. Once I used these in correlation with moisturising shampoo and conditioner which would keep my hair from drying out, I found that my hair was really getting a lot stronger and I started noticing less split ends which I definitely think has something to do with me using these products.
I’m not sure if I will be repurchasing the shampoo, but I definitely want to give another go to the reconstructor in the future. Do I recommend these products? Yes, I think they are 100% worth a try if you bleach or regularly dye your hair. However, I would only recommend purchasing them when you can get them on a deal as they are quite expensive.
