RUBYS OF LONDON VEGAN CAKE REVIEW

It was my husband’s 24th birthday last month and I decided to order him a birthday cake from Rubys of London. Rubys of London is a vegan patisserie specialising in products free from wheat, gluten and refined sugars.

Both my husband and I are lactose intolerant. Sometimes I’m naughty and I still eat dairy with lactose, but my husband completely avoids dairy unless it’s lactose free. Thus, he doesn’t eat cakes or pastries unless they are dairy free as it’s almost impossible to get lactose free cakes and pastries. Both my husband and I also don’t eat refined sugar 95% of the time and we also prefer to eat gluten free. Thus, the fact that I could order my husband a cake that ticks off all these dietary preferances was the perfect option.

Rubys of London Carrot Cake

The cake I chose is the Rubys of London Classic Carrot cake as we both love carrot cake and it holds a special place in our hearts due to certain memories. Their site allows you to choose whether you’d like your cake nut free or to contain nuts. I chose it to contain nuts. Then you can select whether you want the cake to be only Vegan, or Vegan and Gluten free, or Vegan, Gluten Free and Naturally Sweetened (refined sugar free). I chose the latter. On top of that they offer two size options – 8 inch (10-14 servings) or 10 inch (18-22 servings). I chose the 10 inch cake as only this size pipes the cake message on the cake. The cake message on the 8 inch cakes is piped onto the cake board. The cake was £75 and the delivery to my address was £17.75.

The courier that delivered the cake was lovely and the cake was delivered in perfect condition. However, I do think that the delivery price is a bit too steep. The actual cake looked better than it did in the photos on their website.

Is the Rubys of London cakes worth it?

Honestly, I think their cakes are fairly priced. The cake was huge and we couldn’t actually finish it even after a few days even though we packed some for our guests. Considering London prices and the quality of the cake it was worth every penny. The cake was amazing for a dairy free and refined sugar free cake. It was very moist, fresh and light. It wasn’t sickly sweet which my husband loved. Moreover, it stayed fresh for the next 2 days. I would definitely order from Rubys of London again, but only for another special occasion.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a vegan cake! I’m surprised it tasted so good and was so light, I imagined it would be really dense! My best friend is vegan, so I will have to have a look at Ruby’s for her next birthday!

It was very nice <3 Definitely, they also do doughnuts and all kinds of other yummy bits that are a bit more budget friendly.

Happy late birthday to your husband! This cake looks amazing, and I’m not vegan, but I’d love to try something like this for a change. This one sounds delicious, so I’ll have to look out for it!xx
